Travel-induced coma

I don't know how I thought 30+ hours in a car over three days was a good idea, but somehow I made it safe and sound. I have a bunch of photos from this weekend and some stuff that I had meant to post even earlier that I need to post up here, but for now sleep is my number one priority. The road to Starkville

I made it to Starkville safe and sound. 561 miles, 4 states, 220 ounces of drinks (Fresca, tea, water and Coke), 3 rest stops, 14 crosses bigger than buildings and 7 granola bars later... It seems pretty weird to me that I can take South Neil Street from Champaign all the way through to Mississippi. I think IDOT crews need to take some notes from Kentucky and Tennessee, though. Road Trip

I'm using up my last vacation hours to make a little road trip to visit Seidlitz in Starkville, Miss., head to Baton Rouge, La. to cover an LSU football game, maybe check out New Orleans, visit Colin on the way back through in Clarksdale, Miss., and then make it back to Central Illinois in time to work a Monday afternoon shift. I'm going to be exhausted, but it should be a fun time. Google Maps had me on the interstate for most of the trip, but I altered the route to go through more small towns and two-lane highways. Couric Interview

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vbg6hF0nShQ] I can't believe I'm posting five-and-a-half minutes of Katie Couric and Sarah Palin on my blog, but I was impressed at how "almost-tough" Couric was in this interview. I say "almost-tough" because I think any other candidate would have been able to spin the interview and not look like a deer in the headlights. Palin just kept reading her script and it didn't quite work out for her. Come on, it's Katie Couric for crying out loud... you could have just stared back and she would have folded. I can't wait to watch the vice-presidential debates next week.

A Bear?!?!?

They found a dead bear in Hugo, which is just outside of Tuscola, last week... That's crazy. Department spokesman Chris McCloud says investigators are still trying to determine how the bear got to Illinois. They're also still waiting for the results of a necropsy to tell how the bear died. The young male was found September 16th near Hugo, about 30 miles south of Champaign. The bear weighed 150 to 200 pounds. I can't wait to see the full story behind this. Fresh Air

I went for a drive/ hike around different spots of Lake Decatur Wednesday just to get some fresh air.
