08.30.08Anniversary
General (2)Mal and I are leaving this morning to go on a weekend trip to Indianapolis for our anniversary. I'm kind of confused by the whole thing... Technically we've only been married for 51 weeks. So is this the one-year anniversary of my bachelor party? Is this supposed to be celebrating the 7 years, 3 months, 3 weeks and 3 days since we started dating? Do I have to buy a card now, or next week when it's our actual anniversary? Oh well... I'm sure I'll figure it out when she tells me what the right answer is. Not that she's bossy or anything...

08.30.08Central A&M 48 - Monticello 19
General (0)I got to shoot the home opener against Central A&M at Monticello Friday night. I didn't know much about these two teams coming in... so I had no idea what to expect. I'm definitely not the expert, but I thought Monticello looked better than the 48-19 on the scoreboard. I love shooting these small school teams... the Central A&M quarterback also played defense and special teams. I should have looked down the sideline, he may have been wrapping ankles and filling water bottles too. A&M had a monster running back. The roster had him listed at six-one, 200 pounds... he looked a lot ...

General (0)It took less than six minutes to experience my first dose of ref-ass this season. Behind the white pants is a receiver stretched out to grab a long pass in the end zone... Sigh...

08.30.08Take My Picture: TV?
Take My Picture (0)These kids really wanted me to put them on TV. I used to get the whole "TV" thing a lot when we had the old Nikon gear... not as much with the big, white lenses on our new Canon cameras. I guess if they really want to be on TV they can buy an old WebTV on eBay and then browse through my blog on that.

General (0)I haven't been a big fan of the look over at STLtoday.com, the site of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch since they redesigned a little while ago... but I think it looks a lot better with a big, tasty photo by some handsome devil named Stephen Haas. Pushed to his potential (STLtoday.com)

Take My Picture (1)Pretty sure this was on purpose... if not, it's a glorious coincidence. This group of students in the stands at the Monticello game tonight really wanted this photo put in the paper. We don't run posed crowd photos... and we probably wouldn't run the word "ASS" in the paper. I knew it would never see the light of day if I turned it in, so I'll publish it here with the cutline I would have used if I had put it in the system. 08.29.08Finally!
General (0)I cannot tell you how excited I am about football finally starting tonight. Most photographers I've talked to say they like the "slow" months during the summer but love the busy fall months of football, volleyball and soccer. I couldn't agree more. I'll be shooting Central A&M at Monticello tonight... look for photos at the end of the night. I'm also thinking about doing a little post about my workflow both while shooting and while editing/sending if anyone is interested. Heck, I'll do it if no one is interested. If anything it will show my parents what I do on the job. Too often ...

General (3)I got to shoot a freelance portrait assignment of the University of Illinois' Isiah "Juice" Williams for the Chicago Tribune's RedEye last weekend at Memorial Stadium in Champaign. Portraits are not my strong suit, but for the time I was given I was pretty happy with how everything turned out. The link for the story is at the bottom of this post, but there are no photos. General (1)I had the chance to drink some Mexican Coca-Cola today. Apparently in almost every other country outside of the U.S. they use cane sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup. The difference is unbelievable. It also comes in the old-style glass bottles. So basically the lesson of the story -- always buy your coke from south of the border.
