Life As a Homeowner

KITCHEN

Our kitchen remodel is coming along nicely… All of the drywall was ripped off before I got back from vacation, so I didn’t get to do any fun demolition.

Sunday we ran new wiring and put in a few new outlets. Yesterday I cleaned all of the little chunks of the old drywall out of the cracks and corners and patched a big hole in the wall where a little pass-through/shelf thingy used to be.

We started putting up drywall this morning.

I had to leave around 11 a.m. for a noon assignment. Not a big deal… I can’t complain about having to do my job. It would have been nice if that noon assignment actually happened. Oh well. Nothing I can do.

I’ll try to finish up whatever I can do in the kitchen (taping/mudding?) tonight or early tomorrow morning.

We’re also going to cut down a dead tree and get rid of a couple ugly bushes. I used to make fun of Mal’s dad for his love of removing plants and trees… after mowing our monster yard just once I’m already cutting things out. I’ll be leaving the big trees and the pretty bushes… so I haven’t been completely brainwashed yet.

A few days ago I didn’t think any of this was going to get done before we moved in… but with my father-in-law and his father-in-law at the wheel the kitchen is moving along quickly.

We’ll be painting the kitchen walls as soon as possible… it’s a fun color (gamma green) that will go nicely with everything else in the room. The cabinets are coming in Thursday or Friday and we’re putting those in on Sunday. We still have to pick up the flooring and put that in and have all of the appliances delivered.

After hearing the guys talk for a couple of days it sounds like life as a homeowner will keep me from being bored… there is always something else to fix or change or re-fix or build or take apart or clean or mow or something or something or something. I know Mal is already making a list of things that she wants to do down the road.
