05.21.08Happy Birthday, Grandpa!
General (0)Happy Birthday, Grandpa... hope it was a good one. Hopefully soon I can have a photo of you that I took. This particular image is from my wedding photographer. Sometimes I get pretty sad/frustrated/upset/sad again when I think about how many thousands of photos of complete strangers I have on my hard drives compared to the relatively few images I have of my family.

05.20.08Waiting a Little Longer
General (1)We had to push back the closing date for the house by about 18 days. Apparently with the type of loan we are getting for our house the seller has to have possession of the house for 90 days before we can buy it. They bought the home in March, made a lot of repairs and flipped it... so now we have to wait a little while longer. It sucks waiting almost three weeks, but at least now we know that everything is cool with the appraiser and the bank and the seller and all of those other people that we ...

05.19.08One More From Track
General (1)I forgot all about this one from the first day of track... I thought it was funny. I should have worked it a little more. I could have waited for someone to walk in front of it, or shot it with longer glass so it wasn't so distorted. Oh well... next time, I guess.

05.19.08High Jump
General (0)I got to shoot day one of the IHSA girls track and field championships this past Friday down in Charleston. It felt good to be out in the sun all day, even though my forehead is paying for it now. Normally I sigh at the thought of shooting under the harsh light of an early afternoon sun, but one exception is high jump... especially when the photo gods give me straight up-and-down light mixed with an almost perfectly dark background. I must have done something right, because the one of the girls on my list of athletes to photograph was wearing ...

05.16.08Still Waiting
General (2)The inspection was last week... nothing major, just a few small things that we can do to make the home better. I can live with that... just so long as there weren't any red flags. "Excuse me, sir. Did you know about the indian graveyard in the crawlspace? It seems that its been infested with termites. And if you come this way I'll show you the moldy asbestos we found in the heater. And don't be alarmed, but we think we found some Republicans in the garage." Luckily none of those things are true. 05.15.08Soup
General (0)Mal and I... OK, maybe just Mal... have been trying to track down a soup that she had a while ago and loved. It looked like beef vegetable, except she says it didn't have peas or green beans. After going through soup aisles several times empty-handed I kind of gave up on the soup hunt. We picked it back up while grocery shopping... in case you care, it's the Campbell's Select slow roasted beef and vegetables. And don't tell her this, but I checked the ingredients after she went to bed, and it has green beans. While we were searching the ...

General (1)I had seen the "Baby Smasher" stickers on restroom baby changing stations before, but the baby hanging station with the crossed out 'C' gave me a laugh. If anyone cares, this is in the men's restroom at the McDonald's in Oakwood, Ill.

05.12.08Moustache
General (1)I was called in to be an extra in the filming of a movie Sunday. I went through hair and makeup (where I had the best shave of my life) and didn't even realize that they gave me a moustache until I saw myself in the rear-view mirror on my way home. Classy. Ask me about it sometime (unless you are an employee or freelance reporter of a newspaper, magazine, television show, radio program, Web site or any other communications entity)... it is a pretty interesting story. 05.11.08Drive Through Kickapoo
General (0)I really miss parks like Kickapoo... it's one of those things that you don't realize you have until you don't have it. Don't get me wrong, there are some nice parks around here -- Allerton Park in Monticello is great and I am a big fan of Rock Springs in Decatur -- but there's something special about Kickapoo. 05.11.08Guard Cats
General (0)Mom's cats were watching me through the front door like they were guarding the place. I like Rascal (on the left), but I still think that Sugar is trying to steal my soul through his evil eyes. I'm pretty sure I could make a book of cats staring me down through doors or windows and it would sell millions of copies. Millions of people wouldn't buy it, just a handful of those really crazy cat ladies.
