General (2)Mal and I went shopping Saturday... as you can tell, I'm pretty excited about it. And no, the Victoria's Secret bag is not mine. Luckily, Mal got a sweet new camera so she was able to snap this picture of me holding her things in some girly store at the mall in Champaign.

03.14.08Mr. Haas Goes to Springfield
General (0)I went to Springfield for an assignment today and was asked to get some photos of the Capitol Building while I was there... that is a hard building to make a photograph of without power lines, streetlights or other distractions in the frame. I enjoyed this photo of the Stephen Douglas statue in front of the Capitol, but it probably won't run because you can't see the dome... Oh well... I like it.

03.14.08Visit from Chris
General (0)I got a surprise text message from Chris yesterday... he just graduated his Navy training and was back home for the night to visit. I drove up to Danville after I got off work and hung out with him and Jordan until almost 3 a.m., drove home to Tuscola and made it to work for my mid shift at 11:00. Yeah... I'm pretty tired, but it was worth it to see old friends. Hopefully I don't have to wait another two years to see him again... Continue Reading...

03.13.08Horse
General (0)I got to ride a horse at one of my assignments today... I've written about my fear cautious respect before, so that needless to say I was a little petrified as this horse led me around the arena. I'm making the "what-do-I-do-now" face in the photo because I couldn't figure out where to put the $0.25 to make it start... OK, that was a joke, but I really had no idea what to do or say to make the horse do anything besides kill me with its hooves. The girl who helped lead me around said something about me conquering my fear... ...

03.12.08I Will Rip Your Face Off
General (2)I wanted to shoot some eagles with the huge lens today, so with the help of the extremely friendly zoo director, I was able to get up close to a couple out at Scovill Zoo this afternoon. It's one thing to see an eagle through binoculars flying or perched in a tree... It's something completely different to see a big ball of feathers and talons shuffling towards you through just your eyeglasses. General (0)I went birdwatching with Tim a couple of Saturdays ago... yeah, too lazy to write about that too. He wrote a nice post about the trip... Waterfowl migration is almost in full swing, so at times the skies sounded more like helicopter blades than wings. 03.12.08Canadian Geese
General (1)Dad left a comment on one of my posts from yesterday about seeing birds on the lake. If I had to make a list of my strengths, there are two things I would consider myself above average at (besides manliness) -- spelling and birds. "I raised you right…well, by some standards. My skin crawls whenever I hear someone refer to 'Canadian Geese'. Good boy." 03.12.08Trucker
General (0)I got to hang out in the cab of a semi truck for the first time today... this was supposed to be a cool shot of me in the truck, but my seven chins got in the way. I think it's a mixture of an awkward angle coupled with my big bones. Oh well... this truck was ridiculous. It had two beds in the cab. A flat-screen TV, a fridge, leather seats, wood trim, GPS, satellite radio... kind of makes me want to be a truck driver. That's probably one of the only jobs that drives more than I do already. 03.11.08Flock of Seagulls
General (2)I went out to Lake Decatur this afternoon to hunt the elusive eagles. No luck... I did find mallards, Canada geese, white-throated sparrows, horned larks, cardinals, red-tailed hawks, Cooper's hawks, sharp-shinned hawks, English sparrows, pie-billed grebes, American coots, crows, a few robins and about a million ring-billed gulls. That will probably only interest one of my friends, which equals about one-third of my readership...

03.11.08Creep
General (0)Look at this creepy guy I found walking around the neighborhood tonight. Actually, I guess if someone drove by and saw me in my parked car with a huge telephoto lens sticking out my window photographing joggers in the neighborhood they would think I was a little creepy. OK... maybe more than a little creepy.
