It has been raining here for what feels like weeks. I think it’s only been a few days, but it has been enough to drive me nuts. All soccer and baseball games have been canceled or postponed during my past few shifts… I never thought I’d say it, but I actually want to go shoot some baseball. Yeah… baseball.
I’ve been getting my gear ready to set up some remotes for baseball and maybe soccer. I need one more piece of hardware (the Bogen Variable Friction Arm with camera plate) to make my baseball remotes work even better, but I don’t think I can get the boss to buy it. I will make do for now and try to find a used one or something in the meantime.
Five years ago I hated all of the “American” sports… I have always enjoyed soccer, tennis and golf. Before I got my current job I covered a lot of football and basketball at Eastern and shot the high school football state tournament for a few years for some freelance clients. I shot both mens’ and womens’ basketball at school and maybe freelanced a few high school games for some area papers. Somehow, I ducked out of a huge chunk of softball and baseball games.
I covered a ton of high school and college games during the fall football and winter basketball seasons for the paper. A ton. I’m not complaining, just trying to emphasize that I shot a lot of sports.
I almost hate to admit it, but after being around these games, I may be turning into a sports fan. I used to read the sports section just to keep up on the current events… now I am actually looking at basketball box scores or checking the latest football scores on my phone or a nearby TV.
I still can’t get into baseball… maybe that will change with an open mind and a season full of America’s pasttime.
I even bought a bag of sunflower seeds… I’ve heard it’s standard equipment for shooting a game.
