The Secret to better hair

Photoshop on the Web

When I was a kid computers couldn't handle running photoshop and the internet at the same time. Heck -- some of the computers at my last job could barely run photoshop... now Adobe has released a free, online version of Photoshop. I've only been playing around with it for a few minutes, but I'm pretty impressed. One of the cool things -- it logs into your facebook photos and lets you edit them online and save the changes. I don't think I'd ditch the version of CS3 installed on my computer, but I could use the web version in a pinch and ...

Baseball

I threw a baseball today. That may not sound like a big deal for about 99.9% of you... but it is. I went to shoot a Millikin baseball game, well... actually just about an inning-and-a-half of one player in some sweet light for a feature story. Anyway... one of the gates was locked and no one had the keys, so I had to get to the dugout I was shooting from by walking into one, walking behind home plate to the opposite dugout. Snowy Easter

I don't know if I remember snow on Easter anytime in my life... of course I don't remember what I ate for breakfast most days either. This was taken out my car window while driving on my way from home form work Sunday evening. I could have pulled over and been a little safer, but I live life on the edge. And no one else was on the road... everyone was spending time with their families.

Weekend Update

I haven't had much time lately to share my life with the world, or in the case of this blog, three (billion) people. Mal and I are looking at houses... so I'm pouring a lot of energy into that. Research, maps, money, schools, garages, siding, dishwashers, mortgages, insurance, lead paint, parking... there's a lot of stuff to learn. It was stressful enough finding an apartment that we live in temporarily... trying to pick out a home for me, my wife, my cat, our future kids and our future dog is a pretty hefty decision. Guessing Game

I just finished my brackets... I didn't do any research or check any of the experts' predictions. I went through and guessed on all of the games... I think it took me less than a minute to make my picks. Looking at my choices, I'm probably not going to do so well. I have two Big Ten teams in the sweet 16... we all know that probably won't happen. I wanted to spend some time and make my picks based on how attractive the cheerleaders were... but I don't have the same amount of free time at my disposal as a newlywed ...

Enough Already!

It has been raining here for what feels like weeks. I think it's only been a few days, but it has been enough to drive me nuts. All soccer and baseball games have been canceled or postponed during my past few shifts... I never thought I'd say it, but I actually want to go shoot some baseball. Yeah... baseball. The Blind Pig

Mal and I met up with one of her friends from work, Sara, and Sara's fiance, Phil, Saturday evening after our day of shopping. We went to a bar in downtown Champaign called The Blind Pig... this was one of the best places I've ever been to sit and drink delicious beer. I'm wondering why I have never been there before... it's a very laid back, pub-like feel with big tables, dartboards and a huge selection of beer. I tried out seven of the 28 beers they have on tap. Mini-Me

I found this little LEGO guy while going through some old stuff at home this weekend. Dad gave him to me a while ago because it looked like me. I had him on my desk at my old job, but hadn't gotten around to unpacking the stuff from that desk until Sunday afternoon... you know, about eight months later. I got to shoot a couple of portraits of Jon Griffin, a local artist, Friday who does some pretty cool work. His color really reminds me of Jay Ryan, who I wrote about earlier. I found the method very interesting... he sketches something out on paper with permanent marker, scans it into a computer and adds color with photoshop. I suppose it is similar to the way comic strips are made, but I don't know for sure. His young daughter (I'm guessing five or six) sat in the corner and doodled in her notepad the whole time I was there photographing her ...
