Today was easily the slowest day in the world for me. I didn’t have a single assignment, so I sat in the office to archive 110gb of photos and handle a few photo reprints. A fire/police call came across the scanner for a wreck involving a school bus. The weather was crappy and I was comfortable in our nice dry, heated office… I was reluctant to go at first, but now I’m glad that I did… it made for a decent photo.
No one was hurt in the crash. I overheard one of the firefighters telling a mother that the accident was so minor (for the bus) that a couple of the kids didn’t even wake up. The car was smashed up pretty good. Emergency crews just moved the kids from one bus to another and towed the vehicles away. This girl was looking up at her mother, who showed up on the scene somehow, as a firefighter helped her onto the new bus.
It actually looked like that time I hit a bus… except this time it wasn’t my car that looked like a tin can. That sucked… I miss my Accord.
If I weren’t such a tree-hugger I would lobby for automakers to model their products after school buses. They seem to be pretty strong. Unfortunately they also only get like .001 mpg or something ridiculous, so that makes it pretty impractical.
