02.28.08Birds
General (0)I went down to Charleston Saturday to eat lunch with Matt and get some portfolio help from Poulter. The weather was almost warm enough for a hike, but I went anyway. The wind was whipping through the area around Lake Charleston, so I decided to hit the trails out at Douglas Hart Nature Center for a little while. It felt great to get out again. 02.27.08Day at the Museum
General (1)Mal and I went to the Krannert Art Museum with Juli and Brody Sunday afternoon. I didn't even know this place existed... There is a neat exhibit called Blown Away with a bunch of art dealing with explosions or disaster. I forgot how much I loved modern art over that old, boring stuff. The museum also has an exhibit by Chicago-based screenprinter Jay Ryan. His work is impressive... I might have to buy a print or two for my yet-to-be-started art collection. 02.21.08Crash Into Me
General (0)Today was easily the slowest day in the world for me. I didn't have a single assignment, so I sat in the office to archive 110gb of photos and handle a few photo reprints. A fire/police call came across the scanner for a wreck involving a school bus. The weather was crappy and I was comfortable in our nice dry, heated office... I was reluctant to go at first, but now I'm glad that I did... it made for a decent photo. No one was hurt in the crash. I overheard one of the firefighters telling a mother that the accident ...

02.20.08Total eclipse of the moon
General (0)I tried my best to shoot the lunar eclipse tonight... but I'm an idiot and forgot to bring my tripod. So this is handheld with the lens image stabilizer on. Not bad, but I've shot better moon photos than this. Oh well. I'll try to remember the tripod in a couple of years when it rolls around again... or I could just leave it in my trunk until then.

02.20.08Pretty Winter
General (0)I wish the whole season of winter could be like last night... the snow fell very slowly in large, light flakes. I sat in the parking lot and just watched it fall for a while. The light flakes were illuminated for a moment by streetlights or passing headlights. Things have been so rushed lately that it was a nice change of pace to just sit. I think I sat outside for at least 30 minutes and gathered my thoughts... my head is clearer and a little easier to focus now. The snow, just like life, is a beautiful thing... just not ...

02.20.08Clouds from the 60s
General (1)As I was driving to the newsroom from an assignment in Monticello I noticed that some clouds looked sort of colorful... I took off my sunglasses and still saw traces of color. Thinking I was hallucinating, I pulled over on the side of the road and snapped a few frames. The sun must have been hitting these clouds just right to make little mixed up rainbows... that or I had some more of that Bushland Coffee I wrote about a while ago. Anyone ever see this before?

02.19.08Photographs of people that make photographs
General (0)I don't know why, but I have been on a take-photographs-of-other-people-who-make-photographs kick lately. Maybe it's because of my resolution to make more pictures of friends and family... and I happen to be friends with lots of photographers. Here are a few of my favorites from the past couple of weeks. I'm also throwing in a couple of photos taken of me by friends or random school children playing with my cameras during a class visit last week. Heck... I'll even throw in a couple of friends who shoot video. That's just a couple thousand crappy images in a sequence. Just kidding guys... ...
