I know I promised a more exciting post tonight... but I am a little preoocupied tonight. The only way I can describe the night is the method I was taught tonight. "Count to 11 and then fill the rest with Diet Coke." That may be the best advice I've heard in a long time.

Front page

I had my first front photo on the front page of the Chicago Tribune earlier this year... but it ended up being the size of a postage stamp when it ran. I was pretty pumped about that postage stamp, though. I shot a freelance gig for the Trib a few weeks ago... that photo ended up running on the front page, and it was a wee-bit bigger than a postage stamp... more like 4 columns wide above the fold. Out of all of the things I've shot this year, who would have guessed that three young cheerleaders from Tuscola would run on ...

I just stumbled across this photo from last month that I had completely forgotten about. Who needs McDreamy or McSteamy when you have McGrizzly? I know... I'm pretty McAwesome. Or maybe you're thinking how McFeminine I am for knowing who McSteamy and McDreamyÂ are.

Polar Bear

I got to shoot an assignment at one of the elementary schools in the area last Friday... I spotted this note to Santa on one of the hallway walls and had to grab a picture. I don't know who this kid is, but I bet he is awesome... I want a polar bear too, but I was never smart enough to ask for one. You can't blame the kid for trying.

Yeah, I get to do a lot of cool things with my job... but I think the best part about what I do has to be the people I get to meet. Do you get to hang out with Santa Claus while you're working? I do. Tom Tucker, who plays Santa Claus every year, was hands down one of the nicest individuals I have met this year. I got to hang out with him for a little while last month... I wish I had longer, but high school basketball has been the main thing on my schedule, so I had to make ...

I shot another freelance assignment for the Tribune early Friday morning... the farmer I photographed had the friendliest dog in the world.

Friendly notes

I stopped by the Mattoon newsroom last month to say hey to my friends there. Jeff wasn't there when I got there, so I left him a message with one-word post-it notes on his monitor. If he's like me, which I think he is, it probably drove him crazy. I hate when people touch my screens... I meant to post this later that night, but I forgot all about it.

Early Christmas

Mal and I went to her Aunt Lois' house for a Christmas party Saturday afternoon. We got the ornament that Mal wanted... our "first Christmas" round ball with our names and the dates. Aunt Lois knows me well... I got a big, tasty bottle of Tanqueray. Her house is amazing... I studied some of the little details that really made the home unique. Big windows... lots of wood... small, ornate tiles that were scattered randomly with the larger stone tiles... beautiful view of the lake... Mal wants to transplant the house to a town in between Champaign and Decatur so we could live ...
