General (0)News just moved that Rupert Murdoch's News Corp. has reached a tentative agreement to buy Dow Jones, parent of the Wall Street Journal and other business/financial-related media for $5 billion. It reminded me of a blog post by Mary Ann Akers on the WSJ site last month where a group of NY Times editors sent a mock-up of a Murdoch-owned WSJ page to the staff at the WSJ as a joke. The thing is, they might not be far off. Murdoch also owns the pinnacle of TV journalism, FOX News... so you can imagine what he will do to this place. My guess ...

07.16.07Star Trails and Light Painting
General (3)0715 startrailsstephen-DW, by grizzly_lightning Danny and I went out to shoot star trails somewhere outside of Tuscola last night. The spot we found was pretty cool, but I doubt we could ever find it again if we tried. The roads were winding, dark and not labeled very well. Oh well, it was fun to go out and shoot with someone instead of sitting in a dark, empty car by myself in the middle of nowhere. We played around with light painting at the same time. I'm sure people have done this before, but we had fun mixing the two long-exposure techniques ...

I finally broke down and asked a co-worker what the bulb above the server room at work was for. Apparently, the server room used to be a darkroom back in the day. Then I asked what a darkroom was for... One of our photographers would switch back to shooting film in a heartbeat if the company would let him. I like to get him going on a film vs. digital debate whenever I can... so the darkroom question was perfect. And yes, I know ...

I have a lot of stuff to do in the next couple of weeks but I have no motivation to do it... so I stick around until I break down and just do it. Maybe I should get back on my ADD drugs... Birdwatching is boring right now. I'm not bored with it -- there's just nothing going on during the hot, summer months. I'll be out in full swing in a couple of months during fall migration.
