Reflections

0519 Reflection-SH, by grizzly_lightning No... not a post about deep, emotional personal reflection... just light being bounced back off a reflective surface. I shot Josh and Cheryl's wedding Saturday in Champaign... I am happy with the stuff that I got. I don't have much to go off of, though... this was my first wedding shoot. The first part of the day was shooting at Ruth's Salon in Champaign... seemed easy enough until I show up and see that the walls are all mirrors. That was a challenge early in the morning with little caffeine or sleep. Things worked out OK... the building ...

Why spend lots of money on dress shoes when the first thing you are going to do when you get to the reception/ dance/ party is take them off and go dance barefoot? Why don't you just wear your dingy sandals you wear every day and then take those off? Maybe I'm just being too practical... or as women call it, "not understanding"... We (the JG/T-C) broke the news back in December about former Eastern Illinois University quarterback Tony Romo and Carrie Underwood dating. It was kind of weird seeing People, InTouch and a few other magazines quoting our sports editor, who could probably care less about Romo's dating life. A lot of people have been asking me if the two are still dating... and my answer has been "yeah... pretty sure.." Now I can say "yes"... Underwood and Romo are dating. 0505 Shoes-SH.jpg, by grizzly_lightning These bowling shoes didn't belong to any of the guys in Josh's bachelor party group a couple of weekends ago in Bloomington. We were pretty much the only people in the entire bowling alley, but these shoes just sat on the ledge for the few hours we were there. I'm guessing someone bowled just as bad as I did (if that is even possible) and left in a hurry before his friends made fun of his low score.

Stuck Between a Rock and a Coke Bottle

0512 Lake Charleston 086-SH, by grizzly_lightning This little painted turtle hatchling was sunning himself on a rock on the shore of Lake Charleston this weekend and an empty Coke bottle floated onto him. He wasn't stuck... just bumped around. Every time a little wave came along the bottle would push the turtle a little harder. I wish this story had a better ending... like an eagle swooped down and snatched the little turtle for brunch... but nope. The turtle saw my shadow and darted off and I picked up the bottle and threw it away. I still think the eagle story ...

Gas Pains

0514 Gas Sign-SH, by grizzly_lightning I know... that headline is pretty original. I'm sure that no one else has thought of using it lately. The big price sign was broken at the Murphy's in Mattoon this afternoon. In my head, the numbers were spinning around like a slot machine in Vegas... but I'm pretty sure that wasn't the case. I saw prices as high as $3.30 for regular this weekend. Back when I was a kid gas was $0.97 a gallon. I think it jumped above a dollar within a week of getting my license and it hasn't looked back since. Either ...

Fish Heads…

0512 Lake Charleston 075-SH, by grizzly_lightning ...and bodies, I just couldn't come up with a good title. I have never caught a fish in my life, but even I could have walked away with something this weekend. Maybe. I went out to the lake to do some hiking and birdwatching and there were literally hundreds of these carp (?) feeding on the grass and algae on the north shore of the lake. I could have reached in and grabbed one... or maybe stabbed one with a pointy stick. These fish are lucky I'm not a pro angler... or that I wasn't really ...

Maniacs!

0512 Maniac-SH, by grizzly_lightning Employees at some of my past jobs have been called different things... We were associates at Sears, Team Members at Wal-Mart and the newspapers I have been at refer to employees as employees or representatives. KFC is looking for "Customer Maniacs" at their Charleston store. Really? Customer Maniacs? And the best photo they could come up with is a man with no arms getting ready to stick his head in a bucket of fried chicken? I think the PR department needs to hire some common sense maniacs.

Nothing too earth-shattering there, but I did have one question that I had to use every ounce of energy I had to keep from laughing. When he asked "what would you do if you were attracted to somebody else" this sketch popped in my head and all I could think about was "TIT PIE!" Don't worry, I didn't say "tit pie" ... On another train of thought... is counseling the right word for the pre-wedding talks with the pastor? When I think of counseling I think ...

Fork in the Road

0505 Lake Charleston 044-SH, by grizzly_lightning This picture would have worked better if it was actually in the middle of a road, but I suppose a fork in the trail works too. I found it while hiking Saturday morning near Lake Charleston and couldn't pass up a picture. I'll be absent from the blog for a few days while I go home for the funeral. (read the obit here) Thanks to everyone for the comments of support on the blog, on Facebook and in e-mail... you guys all mean a lot.
