I took a bunch of photos with my cell phone a few weeks ago in the old pressroom at work. We don’t have presses anymore (I think they’ve been gone for around 4-5 years?) but there is still lots of evidence of what used to be there.
The old fluorescent lights are dim and green. Ink splatters and smudges cover every area of the room from floor to ceiling. You can still catch a whiff of ink and chemicals every once in a while.
I think it’s interesting that the ink stains on this clock wall clock cover up the hours that people would have been there… I don’t know if I would like that or hate that or if I would even notice.
The photos aren’t the best-quality I’ve ever taken, but the graininess kind of helps out the old, dingy feeling that the room has.

Your first photo captures the spirit of Mattoon beautifully.
Photos of the empty pressroom always make me sad.
