  So hot right now

  Hansel / February 26, 2007 // Charleston, Ill. So... I have a new hamster. Champ is no more. It's a long story. But this is Hansel... he's so hot right now. Yes, I named another pet after another Will Ferrell movie. You're just mad because you didn't think of it. Hansel (a teddy bear hamster) is still a baby, but he's already twice the size of Champ (a dwarf hamster). Other than size and color, they're about the same... content to run in a wheel all night, eats/buries a bunch of food, cranky when they wake up, etc. You'll probably see more pictures of Hansel ...

  I’m a web-nerd

  I want to say "I'm sorry" to the four or five (million) people that read this blog looking for the latest updates on me. Work has been hectic with the planning of all kinds of new features and web-nerdiness. When I sit and stare at a computer screen virtually non-stop for 8-10 hours at work, the last thing I want to do when I come home is stare at a computer screen. I've been playing around with some fun stuff this week... like building live web chats. I'm not sure how useful this could be at work, but I'm still brainstorming. You ...

  Flowers

  Flowers / October 14, 2006 // Charleston, Ill. I have get to go look at flowers today for the wedding. Should be interesting since both Mal and I are highly allergic to flowers. I'm heading over to Wal-Mart to find the highest strength Alavert I can find. I've been coughing and sneezing and blowing my nose all week and I'm finally starting to get better... hopefully I can keep it that way.

  Lots of birds

  European Starling / February 15, 2007 // Mattoon, Ill. I should be asleep now, but I'm nervous about going to the doctor in 9.5 hours, so I'm going to write about birds instead. I made it out to Douglas Hart today. I did the cheat version of birdwatching... from inside the nature center. I like birds (a lot) but I'm not really into the whole sub-zero windchill thing. The woods were covered in snow and ice, so the feeders were crazy. The usual Mourning Doves, American Goldfinches, Northern Cardinals and English Sparrows were there... but I also saw White-Throated Sparrows, White Crowned Sparrows, ...

  More Icicles, again

  Icicles on a net / February 14, 2007 // Mattoon, Ill. I couldn't take any pictures of birds today... the roads were too bad to get to the lake and Douglas Hart was closed, so I took a few more photos of ice. Putting me in front of icicles and bright sunlight is like putting something shiny in front of a baby. I can't stay away from it. A couple more:

  Happy Valentine’s Day

  Icy Sunset / February 14, 2007 // Mattoon, Ill. I was bummed about spending Valentine's Day at work all night, so I decided to photograph the prettiest thing I could find during my dinner break. I thought maybe it would help take my mind off the "holiday"... This photo is decent, and makes me happy -- but I still wish I was hanging out with Mal instead of trudging through the snow drifts looking for pictures. If you want to know: you're looking at the setting sun through the top of a chain-link fence covered in ice at Peterson Park in Mattoon. Six months ...

  More Icicles

  Frozen Harmony / February 13, 2007 // Charleston, Ill. Drawback of ice: It took me more than an hour to travel the 10.75 miles from work to my apartment. I was absolutely scared out of my mind. There were 13 cars/trucks stuck off the side of the road. Suzie (my 1997 Saturn) was not a big fan. Benefit of ice: Like I mentioned in my last post, ice makes everything pretty. The last time I remember ice covering everything was that winter during high school when we made pee-cicles on a fence in Robert's back yard. Good times... These icicles were hanging ...

  Icicle-Covered Sunshine

  Antenna Topper / February 13, 2007 // Charleston, Ill. This is the best ice storm that I can remember. I'm not sure what to think about it... it sucks to drive/ walk/ be outside... but everything is so pretty. Anyway -- I found this antenna topper in a parking lot on campus at EIU today and couldn't pass it up. I want to move back to the desert. This place sucks.

After watching Obama's speech in Springfield Saturday, I remembered that I had photos from back in August when he was speaking in Charleston.
