  Janice's entry to the contest Just a reminder... the wedding dress contest is still going on. I will say, I think Janice has already won (or at least won something) for her submission. I got to thinking about this again after going to pick out the tuxes for the wedding. Am I supposed to be all secretive and not let anyone see my tux?   Winter Birding Wonderland

  Red-Bellied Woodpecker / January 22, 2007 // Mattoon, Ill. I was cleaning out some files on my computer today and stumbled across a folder of photos from last week that I had completely forgotten about. I haven't subjected you to any bird photos lately, so here is a Red-Bellied Woodpecker from my hike at the Douglas Hart Nature Center last Monday. It was easy to spot birds that day with the ground covered in snow. The woodpeckers and cardinals really jumped out against the white ground and branches.   Tribune Front / January 27. 2007 So I have two firsts today. I have my first front page photo for the Chicago Tribune and my first photo on the sports front of the Washington Post. I'll take that as a good start to the day. The portrait of the student in the right column of the Trib is mine. It's a crazy story, and I feel bad for him.   Stupid Arms

  I fell asleep on the couch right after I got home from work this morning. I don't know why, but I woke up and felt really, really angry or mad or something... I'm not quite sure what it was. I decided to workout -- that always makes me feel better. I think I pushed it a little too hard. Now I can't lift or move my arms... and to make things even better -- I'm still mad.   High Kicks / January 24, 2007 // Charleston, Ill. I stopped by the Daily Eastern News newsroom for a few minutes yesterday and found Eric and Carrie playing with the studio lights. I couldn't resist playing for a minute. I miss the studio. I've been doing all of my lighting stuff with a couple of strobes for the past couple of years.   Obama / January 23, 2007 // Washington Do you ever have the feeling you're being watched? This photo isn't super stunning in a visual sense, but there are some subtle things that make me keep coming back to it. I'm sure Hillary is just fine letting Obama be out front so she can stab him in the back while the press attacks him from the front. I hope things don't work out that way, but I wouldn't trust Hillary behind me. I also prefer looking at out of focus pictures of Obama than in-focus pictures of Bush.   One of the AM talk radio shows I listen to played a broadcast of a priestess doing a voodoo ritual to make the Saints win this weekend. Does anyone else find it amusing that the Saints need voodoo to win over the Bears? I will say that I am scared about this game... I guess if the Bears lose I'll still be happy to see EIU represented well in the Superbowl. I'd rather see the Bears, though.
