General (0)Lesser Scaup // December 13, 2006 // Mattoon, Ill. I went on the National Audubon Society Christmas Bird Count Friday... I am still amazed at how many birds I saw. We found birds that aren't usually seen east of the Mississippi River, so that was pretty interesting. I won't put up any of the photos from that day until they run in the paper (Friday morning), so you are stuck with this photo from Lake Paradise Wednesday afternoon. I can talk about the bird count though... The entire day was amazing. It wasn't very productive photo-wise... but I almost doubled my lifetime bird list ...

I've never before seen my full name spelled the way this package came to me at work from the Associated Press. I suppose they can spell it however they want as long as they spell it right on the paychecks.

General (0)Brody / December 17, 2006 // Urbana, Ill. Mal and I went to Champaign Sunday to visit Juli and Brody, start a wedding registry, do some Christmas shopping and grab some dinner. This was the first time in a while that he was actually awake with me around. He's getting so big... he can walk with his little walker. 12.14.06Don’t eat the noodles
General (0)We had a holiday dinner at work Tuesday night... well technically daytime, but they saved enough food for the night desk to have dinner. Hopefully next year we order pizza. Everyone on the news desk got food poisoning from the noodles... ugh. I'll admit, they were good -- I filled up my plate twice because I love noodles... but we've come to the conclusion that they weren't that good. You know how when something makes you sick it takes a while for you to get brave enough to eat that thing again? I really hope that I can get over that in the ...

General (0)I'm sure you've figured out that I'm getting married... I made this as a reminder -- and because I'm a nerd. This will only work if your computer clock is right... Nora's computer said I was getting married in 37 years. That would make planning a little less stressful in my mind. Not that I'm excited or anything, but I'm getting married!

General (0)Today at work one of my co-workers was playing Christmas music about 17 notches too high... I could hear his music across the building. If I wanted to hear Christmas music all day I'd work at the mall. I still can't figure out why people say I'm grumpy around the holidays... I'm pretty sure I'm like this all the time.

12.08.06I’m a wuss
General (1)At least I feel like one tonight... I've mentioned before that Matt and I still hadn't turned our heat on. I caved. With below zero wind chills for most of the day our apartment was 51 degrees when I got home from work. That's insane, even for me. Now I'm going to cuddle up with a few blankets and enjoy the heat for a little while...

General (0)If you live in Charleston, you know that Domani's, a nice Italian restaurant on Fourth Street, has been closed for about a month. It reopened Thursday under a different name (A.J.'s) and Mal and I just happened to be the first customers. The menu is about four times longer than the Domani's menu. I'd compare the selection to an Applebee's or Garfield's... several salads, a good selection of burgers, lots of sandwiches, some pasta, steaks and a random list of "favorites" like meatloaf or chicken teriyaki. The prices were lower than Domani's and very affordable for the amount of food you get. ...

12.07.06Birds
General (0)Great Blue Heron / November 17, 2006 // Charleston, Ill. I just realized that I haven't posted a picture of a bird in almost a month. This picture is a few weeks old, but I haven't been able to go out hiking/birding with my sprained ankle. It's starting to feel better to walk, but I don't want to go hiking and screw it up again. The big boot is no fun. I might have to go out to the Douglas Hart Nature Center on Thursday and sit inside and watch through the window. Tonight's snow should push some neat birds close to shelter ...
