This is late November?

Nice Light / November 24, 2006 // Champaign, Ill. So, it's almost 60 degrees and sunny here at Memorial Stadium. I'm not sure what parallel universe I'm in, but I like it. The only bad thing about having "beautiful weather" is that the light sucks for most of the day. The first two games had harsh overhead lighting, the third game had about 15 minutes of beautiful side-lighting, and then the rest of the night was stadium lights. Kickoff for Saturday's game one is in four minutes, so I'll post more photos later. It'll be a good update. I have Santa Claus, Ron ...

Go Panthers

Westville Fans / November 24, 2006 // Champaign, Ill. I wish I could be at the EIU vs. ISU game today to cheer on the Panthers, but I'm in Champaign shooting the IHSA state championship. The sad thing -- Westville (population 3,000) probably had more fans in the stands to watch a high school game than Eastern will have to watch an NCAA playoff game. ISU will probably bring more people. Hopefully I'm wrong. Go Panthers!

Hanging out with Colin

He's working in Mississippi with Habitat for Humanity through AmeriCorps now... it seems to be working out for him. The hamster population in my apartment has doubled this weekend since I'm hamster-sitting Gus, Mal's hamster (which is actually a female, but whatever). Normally I only have one hamster to play with, so tonight I decided to let the two hamsters play together to see what happened. I knew it would probably be either a hissing fight or a Cinemax movie... Apparently I should have lit some candles and turned up the Barry White. It was funny watching how the two of them interacted. It reminded me of humans... they noticed each other from across the cage, kept eye contact, got closer, started ...

Eastern Wins!

Back 2 Back / November 18, 2006 // Charleston, Ill. Eastern beat Jacksonville State 28-24 today, which makes EIU co-champions of the OVC. Check out ESPN tomorrow to see where they place in the national tournament. I almost blew this game off today because it was cold and my ankle hurt. I'm glad I didn't. Let's go EIU!

Stealing Danny’s idea

Raindrops & Streetlights / November 16, 2006 // Charleston, Ill. Danny posted a photo on his blog the other day that gave me the idea to do this. I used the Wal-Mart parking lot lights and a streetlight to get the multi-colored effect. I think it would have worked better if there were more raindrops on the window but the wind was doing a jet-dry on my car at the time. Speaking of wind -- driving home from work in my enclosed golf-cart with 40mph+ crosswinds is not an easy task. I think I had my steering wheel turned at a 20 degree angle ...

After reading Eric's blog post from last month about his hatred of the letter "W", I thought I'd share this photo of section WW at Memorial Stadium in Champaign. The last dance

The Chief / November 11, 2006 // Champaign, Ill. One of my editors from Chicago told me that I HAD to get pictures of Chief Illiniwek performing at halftime Saturday because it was going to be his last dance. I wanted to be sure to get something close and tight. This was a little too close. I couldn't even focus on him. It will be interesting to see if this is actually his last dance. I've heard it for the past couple of years, but he's always back the next season. I guess we'll find out on Sept. 8 against Western.
