Shelly / October 28, 2006 // Charleston, Ill. Shelly, the dog that lives with one of Mallory's friends, Liz, is the most adorable dog ever. I wanted to steal it. It reminds me of the sweaters Grandma used to make for me with Scottie dogs on them. If I ever get a dog, I'm definitely looking for a Scottish Terrier.

Ice cubes

Ice Cubes / October 27, 2006 // Charleston, Ill. I came home from work tonight, opened the freezer to put in my frozen pizza, and an entire freezer's worth of ice cubes came crashing out. Apparently my ice-maker got stuck in the "cubs-win-the-world-series" mode. Maybe my freezer is telling me I need to have a party... it brought the ice... who knows. I hate rainy days

Great Blue Heron / October 26, 2006 // Mattoon, Ill. I only saw a few birds today, but I got a couple of good photos of this Great Blue Heron out at Lake Paradise. I don't like this photo as much as the other photo... but vertical photos don't fit into my template very well. The forecast for tomorrow looks about the same as today, which makes me sad. Hopefully I can find some cool birds (or bears) that make me happy.

Me / October 20, 2006 // Charleston, Ill. Eric took this photo of me Friday at the pep rally. The bright spot is the reflection of his flash, but I think it looks pretty cool. It's nasty outside, but I'm still getting ready to go out. I don't know if I'm dedicated or stupid... maybe a little of both.

Lazy day

Champ / October 25, 2006 // Charleston, Ill. You get a break from bird photos today. It was cloudy and windy, so I decided to stay in my apartment all day today. I could get used to this half-day of work thing. I laid around, played with my hamster, watched a couple movies and cleaned up my room a little bit. That was just between lunch and work. I really want to get out tomorrow to do some hiking and birding. I think I'm going to go out to Douglas Hart Nature Center to find some warblers.

I found pelicans!

Pelican / October 24, 2006 // Allenville, Ill. I finally found Pelicans out on Lake Shelbyville today -- not the watertight case, but the bird. A pair of American White Pelicans were near the boat dock at the Fish Hook Waterfowl Area on the northeast side of Lake Shelbyville. One of the birds was sitting on a dead tree trunk, making lots of noise and flapping its wings around. I took a closer look through the scope and saw that it had a giant fish hook, what looks like a sea fishing hook, going completely through its left leg and fishing line wrapped ...

Canada Goose / October 23, 2006 // Mattoon, Ill. I worked way too much (more than 70 hours) last week, so I don't have to go to work until 5:30 or 6 p.m. for the rest of this week. I'm warning you now... you're going to see a lot of bird photos. Poulter is letting me borrow his scope for a little while. This shot of the goose is my first attempt. I'm heading out to the Kaskaskia River on Tuesday to check things out at the refuge area.

Fight Song / October 21, 2006 // Charleston, Ill. Eastern beat Murray State 20-10 yesterday. Micah Rucker didn't touch the ball the entire game, which I thought was odd. Apparently EIU committed to the run... they only threw one pass in the entire second half. I have no idea what being committed to the run means... I've just heard it used a few hundred times by sports announcers and anchors this year. I'm going to add the phrase to my list of phrases I can use to sound like I understand sports when talking with sports fans. I figure sports fans are used to hearing ...

Blue Crew / October 21, 2006 // Charleston, Ill. I think I've said it before, but I want to say it agin. I am thrilled to see the Blue Crew in the stands. I hope that the group continues to expand and become a big part of the atmosphere in O'Brien Stadium. I hate to keep comparing Blue Crew with Block I at the U of I, but one thing that I think would make the Blue Crew stand out a bit more would be a little heckling. I'm not encouraging anything vulgar or profane, just enough to get under the skin ...
