A flock of Sandhill Cranes descend on the Kaskaskia River Fish and Wildlife Management Area near Allenville, Ill. So I know I said I would update yesterday... but I'm busy. I'm sure all four of you reading this can understand that. I'm swamped at work right now... Jeff and I are re-designing the website, photos are starting to come in for the grad section, I've shot a lot of nasty spot news, I've had a few meetings more than normal for the website... it's getting kind of crazy. I take fun pictures when I'm bored at a fire scene. I smell like a firefighter. Maybe not actually like a firefighter, but his jacket. I've been to two fires and one nasty wreck in three days. I hate stuff like that. I'm going to bed now... When I wake up I'll write more about the awesome weekend I had.

I’m turning into a bird-brain

Chirp. Thanks to Tim Z. for suggesting I go out to the Douglas-Hart Nature Center to get some bird photos. That place is amazing. The visitor center has an observation area that has floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking a huge amount of birdfeeders and a fountain. They even have a microphone on the outside feeding into a sound system on the inside so you can hear all the birds. I took a couple hundred photos today, it was great. Work sucked... nothing new. I'm waking up in six hours to take more pictures of birds. Don't be surprised if I post another bird picture tomorrow.

I’m getting old

Yep. Another bird photo I think I'm almost at my numbing point. The point where I just stop caring about work. I've realized that I have decent pay, amazing benefits (compared to anything else I've seen) and like most of the people I work with. The only problem, I hate the paper I work for. Would I be better off at a better paper with worse benefits and people? It's tough. I hate getting old. Speaking of old, I'm thinking about doing some serious bird-watching over the weekend. Stupid snow

I've discovered the downfall of having a small, economical car... it's only seven inches off the ground. We got seven inches of snow since I parked it. Now I have a stuck car and soaked jeans/socks/shoes. Sigh.

Crazy weather

My hand is twice the size of Mal. I find it ironic that we went all through January, all through Februrary and almost all the way through March without snow. Now tonight, on the first day of Spring, we have a winter storm warning. Yesterday, Mal and I were flying kites under mostly sunny skies, and tomorrow when I wake up I could be shoveling 5-8 inches of snow off my steps. Well, I won't be shoveling, but I could be watching someone else shovel it. I got to go home over the weekend... it was nice to see the family. Mom, Gretchen ...

Always reassuring to know that my bosses don't even know what I do. The March 15 issue of Illinois PressLines, the newsletter for the Illinois Press Association announces that I have joined the advertising department. Interesting. Thanks Janice for telling me about this... I wonder if I can start getting commission? If I moved to that side, I'd have to learn how to talk really loud and pick the most obnoxious ringer on my phone.

News about my crotch

It feels like I have Osama bin Laden hiding in my crotch. Here is an update to catch you up on everything that's been going on since late February. I'm really tired, so this won't be in any particular order. Some of you may know... but I've been out of commission for the past few weeks. I've been calling it "boy problems" or "bad plumbing"... but things are looking better. I don't have cancer, which is good, but I might still need surgery, which I'm not looking forward to. Long time no post

This is not a rare bird. I don't know why... but I've been on a big wildlife, birding, animal loving mood lately. I'm not talking about a PETA mood, but a Steve Erwin kind of mood. I've been taking pictures of birds, squirrels, dogs, cats and maybe a few of my new dwarf hamster, Champ. I've seen a lot of birds, but apparently not enough.
